Accession Number: NEKHC:2009.164

Object: Yellow Star

Physical Description: Cotton; material complete and in good condition

Information: Under the Nazi regime Jewish people were forced to wear identifiers such as Star of David armbands or badges. The Jewish Stars had to have the word 'Jew' written in the middle, 'Jude' is German for Jew. The tagged lines across the outer edge of the star show that it was cut from a larger piece of material. We have a large number of Yellow Stars of this kind in the collection which will not be showcased online. Please contact us at [email protected] should you require additional information.

Further Information

The identifying badges were often sewn onto a person’s clothing either on the arm, chest, back or all of those places. The intention was to isolate, harass and humiliate Jewish people, and further embedded Nazi ideology that Jewish people were different from everyone else by marking them out from the rest of the population.
