Volunteer opportunities

Volunteers are vital to the running of the Museum, we have the following roles available:

Teaching Assistant
We work with approx. 15,000 secondary school students and 5,000 primary school students ever year who visit the centre to learn about the Holocaust as part of the National Curriculum. Your role will be to assist our teaching staff to deliver a high quality service to visiting schools by guiding students around the exhibitions and Memorial Gardens. Training and experience as a Teacher or Teaching Assistant are highly desirable along with strong communication skills and an interest in developing knowledge of the Holocaust. A satisfactory DBS (CRB) will be required but costs will be met by the Centre.

Museum Guide
Your role will be to assist Holocaust Museum visitors by helping them get the most from their visit to the Museum exhibitions and Memorial Gardens. Strong communication skills along with a friendly personality, an interest in the history of the period and a desire to develop knowledge of the Holocaust are important attributes for this role.

Tea Room Assistant
The Tea Room provides a focal point for both visitors and Holocaust survivors who speak to groups at the centre. Customers sometimes feel emotional from their visit and like the opportunity for a friendly understanding chat. As such this role would suit someone with an outgoing but empathetic manner who is interested in working with the catering manager, preparing and serving snacks and refreshments and handling cash.

Welcome Desk and Bookshop Assistant
The Welcome Desk is the most important and central point in a museum! We are therefore looking for volunteers who will be able to welcome visitors, answer questions, take phone calls and facilitate the range of groups on site and sell merchandise. The ability to work without close supervision, and a desire to develop knowledge of the Holocaust are important requirements for this role. Full training and support will be provided.

Gardens Assistant
A landscape of white roses in the Memorial Gardens is often the first thing visitors see as they arrive at the Centre, so we are looking for an enthusiastic person to assist the with general maintenance, tidying and upkeep of the gardens. This would suit someone with an interest in gardening and ability to work with minimal supervision.

Fundraising Volunteer
As a charitable organisation the Museum needs to raise funds to deliver its ambitious growth plans over coming years. Volunteers can support with fundraising in a number of ways from running coffee mornings to engaging potential donors. Please contact us for more information if you think you would like to help.
