Physical Description: Large dark brown material holdall with wooden trim. Has protective metal coverings on corners. Ghost areas of where labels/stickers used to sit on top of holdall. Has leather handles and hinges.

Information: This trunk was brought over to England by Bob Norton's parents, when the family fled Nazi persecution in what was then Czechoslovakia.

Further Information

Bob Norton was born in 1932 in Teplitz Schönau, Czechoslovakia. The family lived in Teplitz during Bob’s early childhood. They kept the main Jewish holidays, but were not especially religious.

Bob’s father was from Budapest, Hungary and retained his Hungarian citizenship which later helped them to get travel documents. Bob’s mother was from Czechoslovakia. Having first fled to Prague, the family fled again in 1939 to England with the original intention to move on to America. Bob remembers arriving in London with the big trunk, and it being difficult to get a taxi to take it as it was so big.
