Further Information

This photograph is of Ruth David's mother, Margarete, who is holding Ruth's eldest sister, Hannah. The family were Jewish and lived in Fränkisch-Crumbach, Germany. Hannah is a young baby in the photo, and was born in 1926. Speaking of the image in 2016, Ruth remembers that the photo was taken by her aunt Liese, who was her mother's sister. Ruth remembers her aunt fondly, as a woman who enjoyed taking photos of her sister's children and spoiled and as a loving aunt who spoiled her nieces and nephews. Ruth's mother was murdered in the Holocaust.
