Margaret Finch, daughter of Holocaust survivor Ruth David (1929 ­– 2020), will join senior educator Karen Becher to explore the photos from her mother’s wonderful collection of images, generously entrusted to the Museum.

Ruth David’s collection of 50 beautiful photographs are an act of memory. More than that, they are an act of resistance. They proudly defy the Nazis’ aim to eradicate an entire people’s culture.

 Ruth lost her parents and grandparents under the Nazi regime, but was fortunate herself to escape Germany on the Kindertransport with her sister in 1939. With her, she brought to England this visual record of pre-war German Jewish dignity, civility and family beauty.

Ruth, a teacher, herself said: “History needs to be taught in a human sense”. To this, we agree; the sheer scale of the Holocaust is incomprehensible. But, by breaking it down into the stories of individuals, we glimpse an understanding.

After a life well-lived, we lost Ruth in April 2020. In her memory, her daughter Margaret Finch joins us on 2^nd September at 8pm BST to talk us through her mother’s wonderful collection of images that she so generously entrusted to us.
