Physical Description: Information on Item: This photograph forms part of the Ellen Rawson Collection. It is from an album which contained one hundred photographs of Ellen's family enjoying activities such as swimming and holidaying, before the Holocaust. Image Use: Use of images owned by the National Holocaust Centre and Museum is governed by our Terms and Conditions. Ellen was born in 1922 in Königsberg, East Prussia. The family lived there happily during Ellen’s early childhood. They kept many of the Jewish holidays, and religion was an important part of family life. This is a photograph of Ellen and her younger brother Gert, taken at the back of Ellen's family flat. Ellen's father was a keen amateur photographer, and the children were much photographed. As the family were Jewish, their business and home were taken from them during the Holocaust. Ellen survived as she was sent away from the increasing persecution to England on the Kindertransport, her parents were murdered by the Nazi regime.
