Information: This photograph forms part of the Ruth David Collection. It is from a collection of almost fifty photographs depicting Ruth's family over an extended period of time, from long before Ruth's birth in the late 1920s, through to the 1940s. Ruth's family were Jewish and lived in Germany.

Further Information

This photograph is of Ruth David's older sister Hannah on her first day of school. The family lived in Fränkisch-Crumbach, Germany, and at that time Hannah was 6 years old as children in Germany at the time started school at 6. There were no uniforms, the children wore an aporn as seen in the picture to keep their clothes clean. Hannah and Ruth were sent to England to escape Nazi persecution of Jewish people. They travelled separately, with Ruth coming to England on the Kindertransport. Their parents were murdered in the Holocaust.
