Further Information

This doll was brought to England by Sigmar Berenzweig. Sigmar was born in 1931 and as a small child was sent to England on the Kindertransport, amid increasing Nazi persecution. Before coming to England Sigmar had attended the Primary School Philanthropin in Frankfurt am Main, where he had also been a member of the Sports Association. The children coming to England on the Kindertransport were permitted to bring one case with them, which they must be able to carry themselves. Sigmar managed to bring this doll which is one of two, this is the 'son' doll, and the 'father' doll is also housed in our museum (NEKHC:2009.25)
