Information: This suitcase belonged to Sigmar Berenzweig, who came to England on the Kindertransport

This suitcase was brought to England by Sigmar Berenzweig. Sigmar was born in 1931 and as a small child was sent to England on the Kindertransport, amid increasing Nazi persecution. Before coming to England Sigmar had attended the Primary School Philanthropin in Frankfurt am Main, where he had also been a member of the Sports Association. The children coming to England on the Kindertransport were permitted to bring one case with them, which they must be able to carry themselves.
