Sir Nicolas Winton MBE

The Centre was sad to hear of the passing of Sir Nicholas Winton. A remarkable man who saved the lives of 669 children.

Sir Nicholas organised the rescue of children from Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia on the eve of the Second World War in an operation later known as the Czech Kindertransport. Sir Nicholas found homes for the children and arranged for their safe passage to Britain. On 28 October 2014, he was awarded the highest honour of the Czech Republic, the Order of the White Lion, by the Czech president, Miloš Zeman.

Our President Dr. James Smith CBE and Sue Pearson, who came to the UK on the Kindertransport, gave reaction and comment on Sir Winton's death on BBC World Tonight on Wednesday 1st July.
