Scupture situated beside pond

Simon Winston was born in 1938 in Radzivilov, which is now in the Ukraine but was then part of Poland. He was too young to remember much of what happened to his family, but his father wrote his testimony in 1948.

When the Germans came to Radzivilov in 1941 Simon's family were imprisoned in a Ghetto for 2 years.  They managed to escape and for the next 18 months were in hiding in a bunker near a pig sty and in the cellar of a barn.

Simon was a hidden child.

The sculpture shows Simon and his brother Joseph who went into hiding with Simon.
