'Every Postcard Tells a Story' :The Story of European Jewish life in picture postcards.

Join Jonathan Smith as he offers a talk on his extensive collection of vintage postcards, pre- and post-Holocaust.  

Modern social media frequently distributes prolific images that are racist, xenophobic and nationalistic in content. More than 100 years ago, postcards preceded 'socials' as a powerful transmitter of similarly harmful images among communities and empires. 

At the same time, there were plentiful postcard images of diverse and settled Jewish communities across Europe and the world. Postcards also show these in both prosperous or poverty-stricken detail. 

Please note that you will require both an admission and an event ticket. If you already have a free return ticket from the last 12 months, you will only require an event ticket.  

This talk is not suitable for children under the age of 14 years. 

 We are open from 10am until 4.30pm and in addition to our event above, our museum exhibitions and memorial gardens are open for you to explore.
