Born A Hidden Child

In May 1940 the Nazis occupied the Netherlands and before long Jews were forced into hiding to avoid deportation to the concentration camps and almost certain death. Into this perilous situation, Hanneke Bendik was born in February 1943. Decades passed before she was able to piece together what happened to her and her family during the war: things of which her traumatised relatives were deeply reluctant to speak. In this richly illustrated memoir she tells her story.
