Behind The Rose

Behind the rose plaques in our memorial gardens, lie poignant memories of the lives they commemorate. These are an intrinsic part of The National Holocaust Centre & Museum. Those who have dedicated a rose here know the human story behind the names on each plaque. They have made their dedication in love; or in some cases in sorrowful respect for people they never knew but wish they had. For many of the victims of the Holocaust commemorated here, the only words inscribed about them are here in these gardens.

Originally published in 2011 and inspired by the theme for that year's Holocaust Memorial Day - 'Untold Stories' - and by the feature which used to run in our Perspective magazine telling the story behind a different rose in each issue, this book honours the memory of those who were murdered by the Nazis and offers deeply personal insights into some of their lives.
