The dictionary defines a bystander as 'a person who is standing near and watching something that is happening but is not taking part in it'. If we don't take part or respond, are we at all responsible the result? Is being a bystander understandable? Martin explores...

Has Martin met an 'upstander'?

The dictionary describes an upstander as ‘a person who speaks or acts in support of an individual or cause, particularly someone who intervenes on behalf of a person being attacked or bullied’. Martin shares his experience of a true heroine who risked everything to save him.

Would Martin have been an 'upstander'?

What is it that makes us who we are? To what extent could we ever predict how we would be in certain situations? Martin theorises what he would do if the situation were reversed and he could do something to help people in his situation during the Holocaust.
