‘…partnership with a national museum enables older children to find out about the impact of hatred towards different groups on the basis of colour, culture or religion. Pupils leave…as valuable citizens in modern Britain.’ [Extract from Ofsted Report, 2016].
The National Holocaust Centre is the only centre dedicated to Holocaust remembrance and education in the UK. It plays a unique role as a memorial, a museum, a place of testimony and of learning.
Our ten years of experience in delivering primary-aged Holocaust education have led us to develop the ‘Journey’- a national primary programme, based on our award-winning exhibition. Through generous support we are offering access to this programme through classroom-based outreach delivered in schools.
The programme incorporates two sessions. In the first, ‘Leo’s Journey’, students are encouraged to consider key themes of persecution; discrimination; propaganda; individual choices, and what it means to be an upstander- by following the narrative of Leo through diary extracts and exploring objects. In the second session, students explore, with iPads, the testimonies and artefacts of our survivors, who arrived in Britain on the Kindertransport.
You can find out all about our outreach programme on The Journey website dedicated to the award-winning exhibition.
