You are invited to join us to commemorate an extremely important date in our calendar.

What is Holocaust Memorial Day?

HMD is the international day dedicated to remembering six million Jewish people murdered during the Holocaust. We also commemorate the millions of others, including homosexuals, physically and mentally disabled and Roma people murdered by the Nazis. January 27 is the chosen date as it marks the anniversary of the liberation of the largest death camp: Auschwitz-Birkenau.

Join us:

We will be open from 10am to 4.30pm. You will be able to explore our two permanent exhibitions, beautiful memorial gardens, and watch a highly acclaimed play - YIZKOR.

1pm – YIZKOR

"The best play about the Holocaust....accurate, moving, engaging and relevant”.

Ruth-Anne Lenga, Institute of Education

Set in a Jewish community in Eastern Europe, the play follows two teenagers, Ariella and Moshe, between May 1939 and May 1944 and gives the audience an insight into a way of life, culture and religion that was wiped out as a result of the Holocaust. Based on survivor testimony, this moving experience shares the human story behind the devastating facts and figures of the Holocaust.

You are invited to join us for this special event and can watch the play for the standard admission charge, but we only have a limited number of seats available. Advanced booking essential. Book now using the form below.

If you have already visited us in the last year and have still got your ticket, your admission on the day will be free. However, you must email us ASAP if you would like to watch the play so we can reserve your seat.

2pm – Commemoration ceremony

Join us in the Memorial Hall to reflect on this year’s HMD theme “Torn from Home” and for the lighting of the candle of remembrance.

Exhibition tours

Our team will be on hand to give tours of The Journey exhibition throughout the day. If you would like to join them, please ask at reception when you arrive.

We also have a café on site selling inexpensive hot and cold refreshments and homemade light lunches. Looking out on to the memorial gardens, it is the perfect place for reflection.

We look forward to seeing you.
